Inter Milan come back from a goal down to beat Tottenham in Champions League match

EPL campaigners, Tottenham Hotspurs, on Tuesday, September 18 suffered a stoppage-time heartbreak after Inter Milan scored at the death to bag three vital points in a tough Champions League group B opener tie played at the San Siro.

Mauro Icardi and Matias Vecino emerged match heroes for the Italian stalwarts as the duo combined superbly to hand Inter a deserved 2-1 victory over the EPL side.

Christian Eriksen opened the scoring for the visitors via a deflected shot, with the Danish star sending the ball looping over the outstretched hand of Handanovic before dropping in under the bar.

Mauro Icardi, who has not been as clinical for Inter this term like he was last season restored parity for the Italian side in the 86th minute, volleying home from a couple of yards outside the penalty area.

At stoppage time, Vecino headed past Vorm from the edge of the six-yard box to condemn Spurs to a heartbreaking defeat.

Before the defeat, Spurs were looking to make amends to their recent poor run, having suffered back-to-back defeats to Watford and Liverpool to take the club's sail.

This is the first time Mauricio Pochettino has lost three matches in a row since taking over as manager at Spurs, headlining turbulent times for the London club that never made any signing during the summer.

Meanwhile, this was Inter's first appearance in the European tournament since the 2011-12 season, and will be looking to build on the momentum to progress further in the competition.
