Trouble at Etihad as talks between Sterling and Man City over a new contract breaks down

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly struggling to reach a new agreement with their star winger Raheem Starling.

The England international joined the Citizens in 2015 in a five year deal valued around £44 million.

His current deal with the Etihad Stadium outfit will run out in the summer of 2020 but will only sign a new deal if he is offered an improved contract.

The 23-year-old currently earn around £170,000 a week at the club and has told the club he wants to be one of City's best-paid players, with a rise to a basic of £220,000.

However, according to the Guardian, the negotiation has been put on hold owing to the winger's demands.

Sterling scored 18 goals in 33 Premier League appearances for Pep Guardiola's side and has already netted three times this season in four matches.

On Friday City's manager, Pep Guardiola, said: " It's well-known we're delighted with him and would like him to continue. My club knows my opinion and we share that. After that it is the club and the agent. "
