Chelsea line up two former title winners for new technical director role

Chelsea are hoping to appoint a new technical director once the European summer transfer window closes and are considering two former club title winners.

Both Juliano Belletti and Michael Ballack are in the frame for the post, with director Marina Granovskaia taking charge of the search.

Michael Emenalo left Stamford Bridge last season and Granovskaia has taken control of incomings and outgoings in the two transfer windows since.

However, she is keen to appoint Emenalo's replacement once summer business is concluded - with several players still expected to leave.

New manager Maurizio Sarri is keen to work closely with whoever is appointed, which may favour a candidate who can speak Italian.

Granovskaia is likely to remain in charge of transfers and contract negotiations, while some of Emenalo's duties may well be shared among other members of staff.

Chelsea are aware that Manchester United are beginning their search for a similar position and Roma director of football Monchi is on both clubs' shortlists, according to the Guardian.

Dan Ashworth, technical director at the FA is also in the frame, while 2009/10 title winners Belletti and Ballack have been mentioned by the Chelsea board.
