Man United News: Fred's performance analysed on Premier League debut against Leicester

Jose Mourinho didn't get everything he wanted in the transfer window, but he got Fred.

And Manchester United's £52m signing looks to be quite the acquisition.

Arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk, the Brazilian would be excused for taking a few games to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League. Look at Tiemoue Bakayoko at Chelsea, for instance.

Fred looked comfortable in a United shirt

However, in his new team's 2-1 victory over Leicester, the 25-year-old needed no such introduction.

Featuring in a three alongside Paul Pogba and academy star Andreas Pereira, Fred was absolutely everywhere. His bristling energy was notable in team featuring several World Cup stars.

He followed every pass, refusing to be static (as Mourinho midfielders so often are), offering support in attack as well discipline in defence.

And, what was perhaps most impressive, was his ability on the ball. Fred's first involvement was to spray a perfectly weighted long-ball out wide to Luke Shaw - something he did expertly with both feet whenever in space.

Fred was energetic throughout

But he was equally as comfortable in tight areas, picking clever little passes and helping United uncharacteristically play their way out of difficult situations.

Yes, there were moments of sloppiness, but Fred already looks close to being the positive influence United have been missing under Mourinho.

The Old Trafford crowd are not easily pleased, and Fred's standing ovation when he left the pitch spoke volumes.
