Manchester United have reportedly contacted Atletico Madrid regarding a potential deadline day move for Diego Godin, however the player has turned them down.

United have been in the market for a new centre-back all summer long, with no joy thus far.

Major targets for the Old Trafford club include Barcelona's Yerry Mina, Leicester's Harry Maguire and Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng.

With just hours left of the transfer window, Jose Mourinho is believed to have added a new name to his list of potential transfer targets.

The Red Devils are said to have attempted to activate Diego Godin's €25m release clause and offered him a €9m-per-year contract, but the 32-year-old has no interest in a move to United.

Prior to the Godin reports, the 55-year-old manager had spoken at a press conference, denying his side would make any new signings before the window slammed shut.
