Real Madrid to step up Eden Hazard pursuit if Neymar and Mbappe efforts fail

Real Madrid will make Chelsea star Eden Hazard their priority summer transfer target should deals for Neymar or Kylian Mbappe remain out of reach.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Real's all-time top scorer with 451 goals to his name, is expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer with the club currently considering a £88m offer from Serie A champions Juventus.

Los Blancos finished 17 points behind La Liga champions Barcelona last season with the club now eager to rebuild their attack. With Ronaldo's departure, at least one major signing is expected with Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar the club's chief target.

Real president Florentino Perez is said to be obsessed with signing the Brazil international, who left Barcelona for the French capital just last year for a world record £202m.

The club have also been linked with a move for his PSG teammate Mbappe, who is currently starring for France at the World Cup in Russia. Neymar and Mbappe are the two most expensive players on the planet and with no release clauses in their contracts, Real find themselves at a disadvantage.

Real will pursue other options, however. AS report the Spanish giants view Hazard as their 'Plan C', adding the 27-year-old is 'likely' to try and push a deal through if Real do decide to launch an offer.

The former Lille starlet, who is currently enjoying a superb campaign with Belgium at the World Cup, has been locked in talks with Chelsea over a new contract but has warned he may only sign a new deal if the Blues can match his ambition in the transfer market.

Real have made a habit of signing players off the back of their impressive World Cup performances. The club swooped for Mesut Ozil following his campaign with Germany in 2010, with James Rodriguez and Keylor Navas also moving to Madrid after starring for Colombia and Costa Rica respectively in 2014.
