Real Madrid deny reports of £275m bid for Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil superstar Neymar

Real Madrid have issued a statement denying they have made world record bid for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar.

News broke on Monday night via a Spanish television programme that a £275 million offer had been lodged from the Champions League holders for the Brazilian's services.

However, Real moved quickly to rubbish speculation they have made a move to sign the former Barcelona star - claiming the rumours are 'outright false'.

The statement read: "Given the information issued tonight by TVE on a supposed offer of Real Madrid to PSG and player Neymar, Real Madrid CF said that this information is outright false.

"Real Madrid has not made any kind of offer to PSG or the player.

"Real Madrid is surprised that Spanish public television has been able to broadcast absolutely false information without anyone from this medium has contacted any of the parties to contrast the alleged information that could easily have been denied."

The Brazilian forward is beginning to hit top form for his country at the World Cup in Russia - scoring and setting one up in the 2-0 victory over Mexico on Monday night.

It was only last summer he joined PSG from Barcelona for an eye-watering £222 million, a fee which is still yet to be topped by any club.

Neymar missed a number of months due to injury but still scored 28 goals in 30 games and played a key role in the club's French title success.

However, rumours have persisted that he is unhappy in Paris and ready to move on again, with Real seen as his most likely destination.
