Real Madrid expect £100million will be enough to buy David de Gea from Manchester United this summer, reports say.

De Gea has been constantly linked with a transfer to Madrid and was on the verge of switch to Real in 2015 before the deal collapsed at the final hour.

United went on to convince De Gea to remain at the club and the Spain international has been the club's most consistent performer for the last three seasons.

But, Real have always retained an interest in De Gea and believe it may be time to return for the stopper.

The Manchester Evening News claim Real president Florentino Perez is so confident his side will seal the transfer, he has openly spoken about making De Gea the world's first £100m goalkeeper.

United will not want to lose De Gea and have repeatedly rejected all talk about a possible sale.

Jose Mourinho has personally shot down rumours of De Gea's exit and when he was asked in April if the goalkeeper could leave the club, his response was: 'No chance.'

De Gea's focus is now on the World Cup as Spain prepare for the tournament at their base in Russia.

But, Spain were rocked on Wednesday when their head coach Julen Lopetegui was sacked just 24 hours before the start of the World Cup.

Lopetegui was fired after he took the Real Madrid job without consulting the Spanish FA and the decision was taken to sack him.

A new coach, Fernando Hierro, has already been installed, but the Spanish players are reportedly furious their preparations have been derailed.
