Stoke City Complete €7.2 Millon Signing Of Oghenekaro Etebo

Stoke City announced their first summer signing - Nigerian international midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo.

Oghenekaro Etebo , who is about to fly to Russia for the World Cup finals, has joined from Portuguese outfit Feirense for 7.2m euros or roughtly £6.4m.

He spent last season on loan with Las Palmas in La Liga, making a dozen appearances, and was attracting interest from Germany.

Etebo, who has signed a five-year contract, is the first player to join the club since Gary Rowett's recent appointment as manager and he said: "We're really excited to have got the deal over the line for Etebo.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him in a Stoke City shirt as I'm sure our supporters are too.

"Etebo is a very mobile, energetic midfielder and he's a great age. He has played in the top divisions in Portugal and Spain and, of course, he's heading into the World Cup with Nigeria which will be an amazing experience for him."

Etebo, who started his career with Warri Wolves in his native Nigeria, joined Feirense in 2016 and made 45 league appearances, scoring seven goals during his time in Portugal.

Chief executive Tony Scholes added: "We are delighted Etebo has chosen to join Stoke City, becoming our first signing of the summer.

"I'm particularly pleased that he took the time to look beyond our current league status and understand who we are as a club before choosing us ahead of current Premier League and Bundesliga clubs."
