Henrikh Mkhitaryan is keen for Unai Emery to bring fresh tactical ideas and a new team spirit to the Emirates, while he expects Arsenal to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The Arsenal midfielder has yet to meet the new Gunners boss, after his appointment was confirmed on Wednesday.

Emery joins the club after Arsene Wenger's 22-year reign in charge came to a close - finishing sixth and trophyless in a disappointing final season.

With the toxic atmosphere around the club slowly departing, Mkhitaryan now expects former Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla coach Emery to bring plenty to the table.

'I still haven't had an opportunity to meet him. We didn't have time to talk with each other,' Mkhitaryan told VivaroNews Sport.

'I hope he will bring new tactical ideas and spirit to Arsenal, and I hope he will succeed.

'I haven't talked to my team-mates about him. I would like to meet him.

'Everyone at the club is a professional. Everyone knows what he should do and what he is expected to do.'

Mkhitaryan is under no illusions that a sixth-placed finish is good enough and he expects a swift return to the Champions League.

'Our priority (last season) was qualification for Champions League, but unfortunately we didn't manage that,' he added.

'We wanted to do it and we fought for it, but everything can happen in football, so we should focus on next season and return to the Champions League in two years.'

The Armenia international also admitted that he would have been happy for Wenger to stay on, despite the Frenchman failing to secure top-tier European football for two years in a row.

'Not only the players, but the staff overall were sad,' he continued. 'It's not that easy to handle the exit of a man who was managing the team for 22 years.

'You can't imagine how everyone was amazed with the atmosphere he had created.

'If he decided to stay for 10 more years, no one would have been against (it).'
